Andrea Santilli, while a science teacher at Woodlawn Beach Middle School in Gulf Breeze, Florida, sought to challenge her seventh-grade Advanced Life Science students by assigning a topic to each student who’s work would become a page in a finished work. The result? A published a class-created book in Apple’s iBookstore titled “Creatures, Plants, and More!” that was created using the then new “iBooks Author” tool designed to democratize the creation of self-published, multi-touch electronic books. Thus Santilli’s students took control of their own learning and accomplished something significant together with tangible real-world results.

Andrea will be speaking at Station 2 Innovation to talk to us about education, collaboration, and technology and she’ll share her enthusiasm, tools, and tips for you to publish your own interactive work as well as her thoughts on what makes top-notch interactive content for education, web, marketing, and other digital media platforms.

Andrea Santilli, an experienced educator,technology leader, and founder & CEO of Interactive Explorers LLC, earned her initial teaching wings in 1994 at Rhode Island College going on to her Masters in Educational Studies at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She has taught both in the United States and Australia and has used technology as a full-time basis in the classroom since 1998 (NetSchools, Apple 1:1, Microsoft). With over 18 years experience developing successful programs involving Science, STEM, STEAM and integrating technology in the classroom, she is extremely driven and loves helping others create and develop projects, assets, and curriculum that inspires and engages.
