Makers and the Maker Ecosystem

Presentation1The Do-It-Yourself spirit is alive and well in the modern world and flying under a new banner, the Maker Movement. From woodcraft, to drones, to robots, to tech art people of all ages and backgrounds are inventing, building and sharing their creations with like minded folks. We are going to talk about the Maker Movement, and the social, commercial and not-for-profit infrastructure that helps makes this movement innovative, vibrant and exciting in our increasingly technological culture. We’ll also give you a look at where you can scratch your own “Maker” itch in Southwest Florida.

Gary Morin is a lifelong Maker and retired Senior IT professional who was most recently the Chief Information Officer at Energy Conversion Devices in Rochester, Michigan. He is a part time Lecturer in the Department of Decision and Information Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester Michigan and volunteer at Suncoast Science Center in Sarasota and I3Detroit both dynamic local Maker hangouts.
